Baldur’s Gate 3: Can You Recruit Karlach Without Wyll Becoming A Devil
There is a way for Wyll to remain human without killing Karlach in BG3.
One interesting quest the player will get in Act 2 is “Find Ketheric Thorm’s Relic” which can lead the player down an interesting path for them and for some of their companions in BG3.
Speaking With Thisobald Thorm
To even know where to go and start this quest, the player must first find Thisobald Thorm, who will be located at the Waning Moon. This bloated creature will drink with the player until he explodes. Before that, he’ll divulge some information that will lead the player to the Thorm Mausoleum.
Finding The Thorm Mausoleum
To find the Thorm Mausoleum, the player must head north on their map from the waning moon. This location will be in the extreme north, with the player possibly passing characters like Arabella.
Once the player is at the right location, they will realize it, as Raphael will be standing outside. By talking to him, the player can uncover some information about what they’re going to go through inside. Raphael will ask the player to kill a certain creature that lives inside.
The Thorm Mausoleum Puzzle
The player will be immediately hit with a puzzle to solve the second they enter the Thorm Mausoleum. However fret not, as this one is quite easy.
The player must simply press the buttons under the portraits in the middle room in this order:
1. Moonrise Towers
2. Grief
3. General
Once the player does that, they will be able to advance by touching the traversal gem.
The First Umbral Gem
A very noticeable thing the player will see once inside is a statue with purple light around it. If the player gets too close, they will be pushed back. To solve this, the player must go around this statue and into each one of the 4 rooms around it. However, be careful to not step on the metal plaques on each of the door entrances. The player must make sure to jump over the metal plaques and head inside the room to pull a lever. Once this is done for all 4 rooms, the player must now extinguish the lanterns that were lowered.
With that done, purple light will light around the statue, showing a clear path for the player to take to be able to snatch the first Umbral Gem, which will be very important while advancing.
Finding Balthazar
After the player solves the puzzle with the statue, they will continue ahead through a door Norse, where they might have to fight some enemies along the way.
The player will eventually stumble into a room where justicier enemies to fight, however luckily for you, they won’t fight alone, as some skeletons will come to aid.
To defeat these enemies, the player should make sure to focus on the Umbral Tremors as taking them down stops the influx of enemy reinforcements.
When the battle ends, the player will be able to go west through a door to meet up with an odd individual known as Balthazar. If the player plays their cards right during their conversation, they will be able to get a summon golem bell for some extra potential aid from the Flesh Golem.
Shar’s Trials
To reach the area with Shar’s trials, the player will first look for the waypoint, and from there, head north on the map. There will be multiple doors, each leading to one of these trials.
The Soft-Step Trial
The first door the player will see leads to the Soft-Step Trial. Once you go inside, you will see a sacrificial bowl and one of the characters will have to put blood into it for the trial to start.

Baldur's Gate 3: Best Shadowheart Build
Shdowheart is a great healer and addition to the player's party in BG3.
For this trial, the player should pick a single, stealthy character. Out of the companions, a good option would be Astarion. The player should put the character into a hiding position and sneak around from the door on the left. You will be able to see the shadow’s sight area and avoid it, or else you'll be sent back to the statue with the sacrificial bowl.
The player has to look for a key while sneaking around. It will be located straight from the left door. If the player can’t access it, go right instead until you find a lever that pulls the wall down and allows the player to grab the key.
Then, the player will see a button. They should press it to get the wall down and then advance further until they find a door. Go up the stairs until you find a place to use your key. The Umbral Gem will be found there.
Self-Same Trial
The next door leads to the Self-Same Trial. The player will again find a sacrificial bowl and should do the same as earlier. Once the trial starts, it’s quite straightforward. The player and their team must fight copies of themselves. Ideally, it is best if each character fights their own lookalike, and if they don’t, they will be inflicted with Cheater’s Folly, which reduces all ability scores by 1.
However, it is easy to get rid of it by resting, so players can be at ease. The player will be able to grab yet another Umbral Gem after victory.
Faith Leap Trial
The last trial leads the player into a room with yet another sacrificial bowl. The player has to walk on invisible platforms and get to the other side of the room. While it might seem complicated at first, it’s actually quite simple. The player simply needs to look under them to see that the path is drawn already. It’s best to send a single character and simply follow the marking on the floor. With that, you will get yet another Umbral Gem.
Getting Yurgir’s Gem
One more gem the player needs to grab is one held by Yurgir. To reach him, you must go straight after exiting the Faith Leap Trial until you reach an elevator. Then, go down some broken stairs and into the room on the left.
The player has multiple options when it comes to taking the gem, which can even end up in Yurgir dying. It’s better to get rid of him, as keeping him alive doesn't serve much of a purpose, and the player can get great information from Raphael if they do that. The player can then grab the gem and head back.
The Ancient Altar
Heading back up from where Yurgir is, the player will be able to find the ancient Altar. They should add one of the gems here. If Shadowheart is on the team, she’ll ask the player to first get the Spear Of Night. This is optional.
With the gem in place, the player can get on a platform and go down. There will be another Altar where the player has to place the remaining of their gems. This will open a door. Inside is another Waypoint, and the player will get a notice of no return before proceeding to the Shadowfell Entrance.
After Entering the Shadowfell Entrance
Finally, inside, the player can actually jump from very high while taking no damage. You should head down until you reach Balthazar and Nightsong. The player has the option to fight Balthazar or let him go, and the option the player chooses heavily affects the game.
If the player wants to save Nightsong, they will have to fight Balthazar and kill him, and possibly later on have to convince Shadowheart to let Nightsong go, or kill her, depending on what paths the player wants to take with Shadowheart.
With that done, the player has completed the quest.
