Baldur's Gate 3: Ultimate Guide To Cheating On Your Companion (& Getting Away With It) (2024)

Baldur's Gate 3 has no shortage of romantic relationships your character can pursue, but some players may want to try cheating on their partner with another interested party. Sneaking around with other companions is usually a guaranteed way of breaking someone else's heart. However, there are a few paths with certain characters that can be considered an exception.

While some flirting can happen during your adventure, most personal interactions with companions are right before a long rest in Baldur's Gate 3. The decisions you make throughout the early Acts influence your approval from different people, which could lead to some romance at Camp. Depending on who you have in your party, some characters will be more attached to you than others.

How To Romance Multiple Characters (At the Same Time)

Normally, you can't romance more than one character at a time, but some partners will let you cheat on them once. There are still consequences for doing this depending on who you pair up with in Baldur's Gate 3. You need to understand the relationships between companions to know which ones accept sharing you in specific situations.

Pursuing extra companions may even damage your romantic chances with the primary character you want to be with. For example, the rivalry between Lae'zel and Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3 makes it very difficult to charm either without upsetting the other. Pay attention to every companion's values and how they can cause conflict within your party during different interactions.

Out of the primary companions seen in early Acts, only two characters accept a shared relationship. This polyamorous romance only works if you are trying to date either Shadowheart or Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3. Both will understand if you wish to spend a single night with Halsin, the druid of the Emerald Grove who can notoriously transform into a bear.

Shadowheart will also let you have a one-night stand with Astarion and vice versa for the pale vampire. However, these outcomes are temporary. Cheating once is fine if you have the consent of your partner, but doing it multiple times in Baldur's Gate 3 will be seen as malicious to the person whom you have a relationship with.

How To Cheat on Baldur's Gate 3 Companions

Beyond the deep romances you build with companions, you have two opportunities to cheat on your partner, with Mizora and The Emperor. After choosing to save Mizora in Baldur's Gate 3, her gratitude could turn into a night together. There are no infernal deals that need to be made for your character to sleep with Mizora back at your Camp.

Choosing to spend time with Mizora will anger whoever you are in a relationship with, and some will break up with you for pairing up with the patron. Those who have romanced Wyll in Baldur's Gate 3 may not want to get with Mizora in any way. Spending a night with the devil who ruined Wyll's life and reputation may not be something you can return from without some sense of betrayal.

Another character you can get with is the Mind Flayer Emperor. However, this only happens when they visit your mind during a dream. Since your mental visitor only arrives in the landscape of your character's mind, there's no chance a romanced companion will know what you did. The solitude of your mind allows you to cheat only once with this tentacled aberration in Baldur's Gate 3.

As of this writing, there may be more characters that you could share a night with, similar to Mizora and The Emperor. NPCs such as the devil Raphael, EnverGortash, and other evil figures could be people you could cheat with in the future. However, keep in mind that it is unclear whether sleeping with these characters in Baldur's Gate 3 will be accepted by your partner and proceed with caution.

A place called the Sharess' Caress is a location your party can visit in Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3 for a tantalizing offer from two drow twins. These characters offer to sleep with you and a romanced member of your party if they are willing. However, you have to be aware that not everyone is willing to pair up with the twins, so you need to find out which companions are enticed by this proposal and which ones are not.

Shadowheart, Astarion, and Halsin are the only characters who will join you with the drow twins. This shouldn't be much of a surprise given their earlier opinions on a relationship. Choosing to be with the twins while you are together with a partner other than these three companions could prove disastrous. Lae'zel and Minthara in particular are very opposed to sharing you in any way, so this move won't work with either of them.

Halsin takes this prospect a step further and offers to turn a foursome into a fivesome if you approach the drow twins with a romanced Shadowheart or Astarion. Include Halsin in your party to make this option available when you visit Sharess' Caress. Keep in mind that Shadowheart and Astarion do not make the same suggestion if Halsin is the primary character you romanced in Baldur's Gate 3.

The companions Minsc and Jaheira are not romanceable, even though their approval for your character can go up and down. Considering how you need to reach Act 3 before these two can join your party, you don't have as much time to bond with them anyway. Patience and care should be taken when trying to cheat on your companions in Baldur's Gate 3 if you don't want your partners to leave you heartbroken.
